Got Questions?

Hydrostatic Cylinder Testing FAQs

Common questions about our services so that actual inquiries can focus on your location, type of property, timeline, and quotation options.

How often do fire extinguishers need to be inspected in BC?

Under BC Fire Code and NFPA 10, fire extinguishers must be inspected annually by a certified technician. A full internal inspection is required every 6 years, and hydrostatic testing every 12 years.

What is ASTTBC certification and why does it matter?

ASTTBC certifies fire protection technicians to provincial standards. All AW Fireguard technicians are ASTTBC-certified. Your inspections are legally defensible and meet BC Fire Code requirements.

Can I inspect my own fire extinguishers?

No. BC Fire Code requires that fire extinguishers in commercial, industrial, and multi-family buildings be inspected and tagged by a certified fire protection technician.

What happens during an annual fire extinguisher inspection?

Our technician checks the pressure gauge, inspects the cylinder for damage, verifies the pull pin and tamper seal, confirms the label is legible, checks mounting hardware, and records all findings. A dated inspection tag is affixed.

How long does a typical service call take?

For a standard commercial property with 10–20 extinguishers, our technician typically completes the inspection and any required recharging within 1–2 hours, minimising disruption to your operations.

Do strata buildings require individual unit fire inspections?

Yes. BC Fire Code requires annual inspection of all life-safety equipment in multi-family buildings, including suites. AW Fireguard coordinates with strata managers to minimise disruption to residents.
